STILL recovering from the dislocated shoulder he suffered in an opening round loss to Brothers, South East Redbacks captain Cameron Wood will give up bowling duties when the competition resumes tomorrow.

The Redbacks travel to Keith Sternberg Oval to take on Northsiders.

Wood was fielding at first slip when a fine edge caught him off guard. Diving to his left, Wood landed heavily and instantly knew he had done damage.

"I've been batting in the nets, but I don't think I'll be able to bowl,” the captain said.

"We have plenty of bowlers (to fill the void) though. Give me two more weeks and we'll see then.

"I'd never done anything like it before, it still gets really sore.”

Wood said the team were left disappointed after the loss to Brothers; a game he said they should have won despite missing some key players.

"We needed two wickets and they needed 50 runs, somehow Richo (Brothers skipper David Richardson) picked up 30-odd,” Wood said.

"He told us he gets that score maybe once a year - that was just our luck.”

With top-order bats Brodie Dwyer and Tom Douglas back in the mix having returned from South Africa, Wood expects to field a full strength line-up.

Even though just the second match of the season, Wood said it was important the Redbacks did not fall into an early hole at 0-2.

"It's important to start the season well, and I think everyone is keen to get out there and get amongst it,” he said.

"(Northsiders) have a good mix of experienced blokes and young players. They're always hard to play especially at home, it'll be a good contest.”

The Redbacks returned to the nets immediately after Christmas in preparation for today's fixture.

"This is our second week back now already, we even had a hit-out on Saturday,” Wood said.

"We'll have had four or five sessions together before the game which is good.

"We've changed up our top order a bit, we're hoping to go a bit more attacking.”
