Police seize car from young mum on L-plates

A MUM who says she was driving to get medication for her ill child in an unregistered car, and without a fully licensed driver beside her, lost the car when it was seized for a week by Gladstone police.

Ashleigh Hamilton, 24, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to six offences including driving an unregistered and uninsured car on June 9; being a Learner driver who failed to comply with requirements; and driving a car with cancelled plates.

Prosecutor Sgt Barry Stevens said Hamilton was intercepted by police at 8.45pm driving along Dalrymple Drive. The Learner driver had a child with her but no accompanying driver.

The car, which belonged to her partner, was seized and immobilised for seven days.

Lawyer Jun Pepito told the court she was driving to the chemist because her child had difficulty breathing. Sgt Stevens said she did not tell police that at the time. She was fined $535.
