ALICE* was completely swept off her feet when she met Mark in Egypt.
After a "whirlwind romance" the couple got married quite soon after.
Alice thought she had met the man of her dreams but it wasn't long before she realised he wasn't "quite as [she] expected", with a "large sexual appetite" and a "very argumentative" character.
All of his faults aside, she could never have predicted that the man she married was a paedophile.
Just when she thought her world could not get any more devastating it was then revealed that he had been sexually abusing their very own four-year-old daughter, Grace.
Alice will never forget the fateful day she arrived home to find a SWAT team had raided every inch of her house.
"They interviewed him for six hours, they left, didn't arrest him. He told them he was going to buy groceries for dinner, drove south and that was the last anyone saw of him," she told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, hosts on This Morning in the UK.
"Out of 10,000 megabytes of photographic evidence, there were 800 images of our daughter.
"Not all that information came in one go, so it took a while to work out Grace had been involved."
The only silver lining in this atrocious scenario was when karma kicked Mark well and truly in the butt.
Just three hours after leaving the family home, he was killed in a car crash after a head-on collision with a campervan driving in the opposite direction.
In many ways, Alice admits, she's relieved her husband is no longer alive.
"It is a blessing he's gone, as I'm happy I don't have to take my children to see him in prison, or have the unwanted publicity."
Alice says Grace is doing quite well, all things considered.
"She's doing great, she's a normal teenager for the most part," the mum says.
"She does have a physical memory of what happened, and some time she'll have to put words to it. She's only mentioned it half a dozen times and she's never disclosed it in full detail."
