WHITSUNDAY police have confirmed mechanical conditions were not contributing factors to the fatal bus crash which occurred on Shute Harbour Road earlier this year.

On February 16, the bus travelling between Airlie Beach and Proserpine left the roadway and crashed into a ditch.

A 19-year-old man died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash and a number of other passengers were treated for other injuries.

Senior Sergeant Nathan Blain of the Whitsunday Police said the bus was in "sound condition" at the time of the crash.

"As part of the investigation, a full mechanical inspection was conducted and was not a contributing factor to the crash," he said.

He said the road was also inspected and was also found not to be a factor.

Yesterday, a 70-year-old man Cannonvale man was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He will appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court on October 24.
