NATURE enthusiasts will be able to learn more about our country's unique bird species at a week long event at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in the Scenic Rim.

The annual Bird Week program takes flight from November 11-17, and will give visitors the opportunity to celebrate Australia's largest collection of sub-tropcal birds. More than 200 species of the 230 varieties of birds live in the world-Hritage listed region of Lamington National Park.

Only a two hour drive from Ipswich, birders will get to see rare species such as Alberts Lyrebird, which is not found anywhere else on earth.

Other sought after birds include the Paradise Rifle, Refous Scrub and Regent Bowerbird.

Visitors will also meet with wildlife experts, zoologists, researchers photographers and artists over the course of the week.

Canungra artist and designer Tamlyn Geiger is looking forward to visiting O'Reilly's during Bird Week to share her love of fine art.

She will be working on a canvas water colour bird scence over three days and invites everyone visiting O'Reilly's to sign up.

"I am very excited to be part of the program and am looking forward to interacting with guests and sharing my love for water colours with them," she said.

"I love teaching people, especially in my favourite medium, and hope to attract other water colour artist and beginners to join in."
